This Weeks Observations: What a week for USC. It was great to hear (no t.v. here) USC beat a very good Oklahoma team for the national championship! A back-to-back national championship and their second Heisman Award in the last three years. To put it in perspective, they hadn't won the national championship (beofre last year) since before Jennifer was born and, before Carson Palmer, had only five Heisman winners over the last 90+ years. Also great is that most of the starters are retunring though the ones they lose are good players. Also worth mentioning is that they now have the longest winning streak in college football with 22 and 40 of their last 43 games (over the last three seasons, one loss last year and two the year before). Well, I don't have any plans to update this page for sometime (unless their's big news) but I'll be leaving it here.

BCS Mess: First, I don't think Auburn has anything to complain about. Any team that chooses to play AA team Citadel, #113 ranked (out of #117) Louisiana-Monroe and #92 Louisiana Tech has absolutely no argument. It also makes their stats somewhat vois (so what if these teams couldn't produce any points against them or that they could run up the score on them). Play some real teams and then complain. The worst thing about the BCS was leaving Cal out in favor of Texas. Cal is far better, played a tougher schedule and is ahead in both human polls. Why do we even have these computers? I say, dump the computers and only use the human polls to decide who plays where.

Bowl Picks: 17-11

My Record of Picks for 2004: 115-39

One of my favorite sports is college football (along with Baseball, though I also like other sports like Basketball, Hockey, Soccer and the NFL). My favorite college football team is the USC Trojans of southern Cal. Everyone asks me if I went there which I never did as I student. I was accepted into a school agreement to go to Biola for two years and then finish with three years at USC. However, before I transfered to USC I changed my majoy from Electrical Engineering to Biblical Studies (though I like USC, it's not my school of choice for theology!). I did, however, marry into the USC family (most of Jennifer's family are USC alumni, including her dad). I'm not able to watch much college football in Germany but I am able to get some games via the internet and by tapes sent to us from the states.

For those who don't know, USC won last year's national championship (split with LSU) which was their first since 1978. They came into this season ranked number one (not easy to be, especially when considering there are 117 teams in NCAA division 1 football) and has a good chance for a national championship again this year but need to win some tough games (including Virginia Tech, Cal, Arizona State, and Notre Dame) and not get too laxed at the other games.

Final Ranking: (1) USC (13-0), BCS & AP National Champions

Next season could be another exciting run at the national championship with most of the team returning. Their non-conference schedule includes at Hawaii, Arkansas at home, at Notre Dame, and one TBA. Potentially tough games include: at Oregon, at ASU, and at Cal. Good news is no Oregon St.

Season:

(1) USC (0-0) 28, Virginia Tech (0-0) 13 Tough game but I think VT is better than most people think.

(1) USC (1-0) 49, Colorado State (0-1) 0 CSU was crushed but had a ton of tunr-overs.

(1) USC (2-0) 42, BYU (1-1) 10 Another crush but could easily have been a lot worse for BYU.

(1) USC (3-0) 31, Stanford (3-0) 28 A tough road win for USC but they came back in the second half, especially the Defense.

(1) USC (4-0) 23, (7) Cal (3-0) 17 A very tough and scary game won by USC because of their special teams.

(1) USC (5-0) 45, (19) ASU (5-0) 7 A surprisingly easy game for USC. Great to see them firing on all cylinders.

(1) USC (6-0) 38, Washington (1-5) 0 Despite the slow start USC had a good game and stopped the nations longing shut-out streak.

(1) USC (7-0) 42, WSU (4-3) 12 USC came out fast and dominated on both sides of the ball. Good chance for the 2nd team to get play time.

(1) USC (8-0) 28, OSU (4-4) 20 USC had a tough time getting going in the fog but came through with their last big away game.

(1) USC (9-0) 49, Arizona (2-7) 9 USC had little problem dispatching Arizona who is having a rebuilding year.

(1) USC (10-0) 41, Notre Dame (6-4) 10 USC slow start but came back big against Notre Dame on both sides of the ball.

(1) USC (11-0) 29, UCLA (6-4) 24 USC played a bad game with Leinhart having an injury but they pulled it out.

(1) USC (12-0) 55, Oklahoma (12-0) 19 USC played a incredible game against a great team to win the national championship!

I took this picture at Notre Dame last year when USC went on to win the National Championship!
